Surgical Services
Under the leadership of Dr. William Barclay, a board certified veterinary surgeon, the Abbeywood team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants is able to offer a wide variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures. Orthopedic procedures include fracture repair and joint surgeries; soft tissue surgeries include gastrointestinal, urogenital, and oncologic (cancer) procedures as well as more routine procedures such as spays, neuters and declaws.
Prior to surgery, each feline patient receives a thorough physical examination to help identify any existing medical conditions that might endanger his/her health. Because not all problems can be detected on examination alone, pre-anesthetic blood testing is routinely recommended. These tests not only provide a more complete picture of your catÃs health, but also allow us to tailor an anesthetic regime that is specific for your cat.
We are equipped with anesthetic machines that offer safe inhalant anesthesia. Our patients are monitored continuously throughout anesthesia utilizing extensive monitoring devices including Doppler blood pressure and pulse oximetry.
Pain management is also a significant part of our pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative anesthetic protocols.
